Team Philosophy
Our offensive philosophy will encompass the running game.
- We will try to run on every gained possession. We do not run and gun, we run and take high percentage shots. We run to outnumber our opponents.
- We must be in top condition to reach our objective.
- If the fast break shot is not there, we run transition into offense.
- Offense in the quarter-court is based on player and ball movement. If there is a driving or a shot opportunity, we will drive or shoot within the context of what we are trying to achieve offensively.
- It is crucial to be "ready to play". We value possession and take care of the ball.
Offensive Objectives
- Run the floor.
- Fill the lanes.
- Open man must receive the ball.
- Driving lane-passing lane principle.
- Make lay ups, open shots and fouls.
- Stances - Triple threat position (threatens shot, drive, pass).
- Create a passing lane (pass fakes)
- Play as a team
- Pass away from the defense.
- Contest every rebounding play.
Defensive Philosophy:
- Defensively our philosophy is pressure
- We try to apply pressure in the full court. We try to keep our opponents from doing what they want to. We "bother them".
- We pay attention to containing the handler - we allow no middle penetration.
- We will allow no uncontested shots. We will allow no second shot opportunities. We will always communicate to our teammates.
- Our defense is fundamental to one on one principle.
6 Factors (that must be covered in every practice):
- Defensive Coverage - Communicate, cover the runner(s), cover the ball, "get back", stop them from doing what they want to do on the court.
- Defensive Rebound Coverage - Get the block out and get the ball.
- Handle The Basketball - Outlet, handle the ball safely, value every possession.
- Shooting/Fundamentals - One missed lay up is one too many. Get good penetration, make smart passes, get the open man the ball, and take good shots.
- Offensive Rebound Coverage - Contest every rebound, fight the block out, win possession game.
- Foul Shooting - The only undefended shot we can expect, so we expect a high conversion.
